I built a metal “build bench” to work on the GT40. From a number of other builders, I’ve learned:

• The underside of the lowest tube has to be tall enough to allow the wheels and legs of a Cherry Picker to roll under the stand
• Much of the work will be done at the level of the sponson top so overall height is critical. I chose to make mine 19″ tall. Be careful not to go too tall; you have to be able to get in and out of the cockpit.
• The casters will be subject to the vehicle’s weight by the time you’re ready to put it on its feet. Make sure the casters have sufficient load capacity.

I built two of these, using 2″ square tube and then spaced them using 1″ square tube. You’ll note the two sockets with a clamp bolt on the inside of the stand. This allows for length adjustment and for removing the crossbars from critical work areas.
